Design Technology

This week some of our year 7 students completed their textiles rotation. At the start of the rotation the students were given the theme Promoting the Environment and were challenged to make a bag using different hand sewing and embroidery techniques. We have had some fantastic designs.

In year 8 they will be learning how to use a sewing machine.

Well done year 7.

Year 7 Basketball

The year 7 Basketball team took a short trip over to Warwick to play in their last scheduled regular season match. Southam took a strong lead with some quick-fire baskets to end the first quarter 6-0.

In the second quarter Myton managed to work themselves back into the game as some individual and team baskets opened the cracks of Southam’s defence. Southam managed to hit back with moments of brilliance to ensure they kept their well earnt lead going into the second half. In the second half, Southam played some good basketball, moving the ball really well around the opposition’s basket. Some great defensive rebounds by Mason and offensive rebounds by Oliver led to the more opportunities to score as Raff scored a late basket to secure the 16-10 win.

The team once again, represented themselves brilliantly and we await results which may lead us to play in the playoffs in the next round. Fingers crossed!

Explorer Dome Science Shows

Day 1

7GV1, 7GV2, 7SE1, 7SE2 and 7WG1 all enjoyed an immersive multi-sensory journey today. This started 13.8 billion years ago with the moment where the Universe began as a tiny, dense fireball that exploded or ‘The Big Bang’ and took us on adventure through time which culminated in a look at some of the unusual genetically engineered organisms of the modern world. During this show we were able to study life processes, different cells, the structure of DNA as well as the intricacies of cell division, genetic engineering, natural selection ,extinction and even the evolution of life itself.

Students were totally engaged with this experience and asked some excellent questions, very well-done year 7! We would like to say thank you to our talented presenters Matt and Josh from Explorer Dome for delivered such engaging and imaginative sessions and we very much look forward to greeting 7WE1, 7WE2, 7WH1 and 7WH2 tomorrow.

Cooking and Nutrition

Our year 7 students have been discussing where our food comes from. We have looked at using British produce such as blackberries, rhubarb and a variety of locally grown apples. Our 7A5 students enjoyed making fruit crumbles and taking part in the longest strip of apple peel competition.

Well done to our competition winner Arthur.
