Wednesday evening saw the year 7 football team take part in the Mid and South Warwickshire Small sided tournament at a very cold, wet and windy Kineton! It took some time for the boys to find their groove and drew their first three game 0-0 against Shipston, Stratford and Aylefsord. During all three of these games the team kept the ball well and played some lovely football without creating any clear cut chances. Seb in goal had next to nothing to do mainly due to great defending from Jasper and Dexter. In the 4th game, Southam started very much on the front foot and scored an early goal through Aiden, causing scenes of great celebration! Southam had the opportunities to score more but couldn’t capitalise and held on to a 1-0 win vs Kineton. In their final game, the team again started on the front foot and scored within a minute of kick off through Sam who drilled a shot from the angle into the far corner. Again, despite multiple opportuntiies, the team couldn’t score another goal but held onto a 1-0 win vs Campion despite a last minute scare on our own goal line!
When the results were finalised, Southam finished joint 1st with Alcester Grammar School but ended up finishing 2nd on goal difference.
A fantastic effort to play 5 games without conceding a goal in quite possibly the worst weather conditions!
Well done gents and roll on the rest of the season.
Mr Turton.
