On Thursday 13th October 2022 Year 7 kicked off their first Netball season with a tremendous win!!! Southam College played Aylesford at home, final score 16-1 to Southam.
The game started off nervously with both teams getting the ball end to end. Southam shooters managed to get in 3 goals in the first quarter, taking a 3-0 lead. The second quarter was also tentative, but the girls got in to more of a rhythm and scored 3 more goals. Half time score 6-0. In the third quarter Southam found their confidence and played amazing Netball. The ball was worked nicely down the court into the shooters, who successfully got 8 goals in this quarter. Aylesford also scored, score 14-1. The final quarter was a little closer, but Southam continued to play well, 2 more goals were achieved, and they held the score line tight. Final score 16-1
In attack, Isabella, Bethan and Jessica all worked hard to make sure the ball was getting through the centre court successfully into the shooters. Ava, Florence and Phoebe all displayed excellent shooting skills, especially under pressure from the Aylesford defence. Ava was also nominated ‘player of the match’ by the Aylesford team. In defence, Isabella, Sophia, Sophie and Lotti made some outstanding interceptions, making it very difficult for Aylesford to get the ball and score. Overall, absolutely amazing!
‘Well done and thank you to all the girls who played and represented Southam College with such pride and determination. I am extremely proud of you all and look forward to the season ahead. Miss Evans.’
